Overview
Gastritis is an inflammation if the stomach lining. It may be caused
bacterial or viral infections, and in particular by the bacteria
Helicobacter pylori.
Signs and Symptoms
- Epigastric pain.
- Fever/Nausea/Vomiting.
- Possible frequent stool.
Etiology
Gastritis is often a consequence of overuse of antacids, which results
in reduced stomach acidity
(
hypochlorhydria),
which in turn reduces the physical barrier to infection.
Sequelae
If untreated, an ulcer may result.
