Zinc Deficiency
Dr. Weyrich's Naturopathic Functional Medicine Notebook
Overview
Zinc deficiency is associated with a number of medical conditions, including:
- prostate problems.
- symptoms of hypothyroidism, because zinc is required for T3 to bind to receptors;
zinc levels correlate with T4 and T3 levels [Spectrracell seminar, 5/2010].
Etiology
Zinc deficiency may be due to poor dietary intake or absorption, or to accelerated loss.
According to [Spectracell], elevated T4 increases loss of T4.
